New Adventures
Goldenbird has been on a hiatus for a long time. It’s the same old story – research takes as much time as art, and easily swallows your whole free time if you don’t watch out. I love my scholarly work almost as much as my comics, and there can’t be one without the other. But do not fear – next year will be devoted to comics. As you may know, I have received funding for an album project. The story is set in the 1920s, and will be in full colour. I will colour it by hand, but I’m really into digital painting right now. In the beginning I was frustrated because I A) want to be an instant genius at everything, B) use all the colours in the basic palette despite the fact that it looks terrible.
Mochiiiiiii! <3
But what is Falco's right hand doing … :3
I’ve never really done it, so I’m totally awful at colouring comics (although somehow I’m able to pull it off with cover illustrations). But one thing I really miss with black and white comics is seeing everybody’s actual skin, hair and eye colours. V^(oo)^V
I shouldn’t have put that colour outline on Mayann’s bottom. Basic mistake, makes it look like his hand is too close! Sometimes you can see that something is wrong but you don’t see what to do about it until it’s too late. But it’s so gratifying when you finally find a solution.
